Sustainable Travel Competition

Matka Travel Fair invites travel industry companies to participate in a sustainability competition aimed at finding tourism products and services based on sustainable practices. The competition’s final round will be held as a pitching contest at the Matka Fair in Helsinki on January 16, 2025, with the winner receiving a €10,000 prize awarded by the Finnish Fair Foundation.
Competition criteria:
The sustainability competition seeks products or services that place sustainability at the core and serve as role models for other players in the tourism industry. Candidates should meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Create jobs by employing local people and businesses or promote the preservation of the cultural heritage of the destination.
- Address environmental challenges and opportunities, for example, by using clean energy, conserving energy, or protecting marine life.
- Has demonstrably created a positive impact, for example, through nature conservation actions, nature-based solutions, or by avoiding emissions.
- Address demographic challenges and accessibility with exceptional care.
- Focus on health and well-being impacts.
- Utilize technology and include scalable digital innovations.
- Promote decent work and economic growth.
Participation: The competition is open to all companies and organizations operating in the travel industry in Finland. Competition entries must be submitted by December 2, 2024.
Selection Process: By December 11, 2024, the jury will select five companies to advance to the finals. The selection criteria will emphasize the impact, scalability, and replicability of the product or service. The nominated products and services must be available for sale or launch at the Matka 2025 Fair.
Final and Prize: The selected finalists will present their product or service on the Travel Fair’s professional day, 16 January 2025, on the Matkatieto Stage from 10:30 to 11:05. After the presentations, the jury will choose the winner, who will be awarded a €10,000 prize from the Finnish Fair Foundation on the same stage at 16:00.
